Have Fun While Saving Money In and Around Michigan

Who doesn’t love a good discount especially after the holidays?  Use your age as an asset and enjoy the good life without breaking the bank.   We suggest you check with your local merchants to be sure they are honoring the discounts we’ve mentioned as the details may vary per location.

Dining Out

  • Fire Mountain Restaurant offers seniors over 60 approximately a 10% discount if you spend $1.00 and purchase a Senior Club Card.
  • Finley’s Restaurant offers seniors over 60 a flat 10% off their meals.
  • Applebee’s offers up to  a 10% discount to seniors.  Some locations may require you to apply for the Applebee Golden Apple Card in order to get the discount.
  • Burger King often provides 10% off a meal or a discounted drink if you mention you are over 55.
  • Bob Evans, Perkins Restaurant, and Denny’s offer menu selections for seniors with smaller portions and prices.

If you are over 60, you may want to mention that wherever you are dining to see if they offer a senior discount.

Travel

  • If you’re travelling, consider using Amtrak.   If you’re over 62, you are entitled to 15% off of the standard fare.  You can also sign up for their email newsletter to be notified of special fare prices.  For more information check this.
  • Speaking of travel, if you live in the Lansing area and use CATA (Capital Area Transportation Authority), you can get a free CATA Club Card if you are over 62. With this card, fares are $.60 one way and $1.25 round trip on a fixed route.   For more details about discounts on bus passes, check here.

Theater and Special Events

  • Many AMC theaters offer discounts to seniors on Tuesdays.  Check with your local AMC theater to be sure that is the case at the theater of your choice.
  • The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor has tickets for $8 for all seniors over 65.  If you’d rather see a movie before 6PM Monday-Friday, tickets are $7 excluding holidays for everyone, including seniors..  For more information on upcoming films,check here.
  • If you’d like to go to the Detroit Film Theater at the Detroit Institute of Arts, your discounted price  is $6.50.  For a list of upcoming shows, check here.
  • The North American Auto Show will be at Cobo Center from Saturday, January 18 – Saturday, January 26, 2014.  Tickets are $7.00 for seniors over 65.  For more details, check here.
